While I was recently asked to speak about this topic, it got me thinking about my level of professionalism, and how do I portray professionalism in my profession.

After this, I began to think about what I do to teach, and bring out professionalism in EMS. Over my decade in the career field, I can honestly say there were times where I didn't reflect professionalism even though I thought I was, and there were times that I reflected the values of professionalism even when I didn't think I was.

Hopefully, this multi-week series will provide some valuable information on professionalism which you can take back to your classrooms, your EMS services, your fire halls, or just to yourself. I will bring you reference material that provides you up-to-date information on professionalism, and some more "dated" materials that provide a historical perspective to EMS. I would love to receive your feedback on the series, and hopefully you will find this effective. I will couple this series with the TEMSEA newsletter, and with the twitter feed.

Hope you have a great day, and as always...Stay Safe.

David S. A differential diagnosis of pulmonary edema vs. pneumonia requires an accurate history of present illness, detailed physical exam and an understanding of the physiologic differences of respiratory disease. In this lecture Steven Kanarian will review the elements of a history of present illness physical exam, physiologic problems of pulmonary edema and pneumonia and the key differences in these diseases. This session will improve the field diagnostic abilities of EMTs and paramedics. In addition, I hope that we all took time to thank those that have kept up free, and hope you were thanked for your service here locally.

As we rap up this Memorial Day weekend we also realize thank we are only 53 days away from the start of the 2010 TEMSEA Conference in Gatlinburg Tennessee. The events being held this year at the Park Vista Hotel and Conference center will highlight prolific speakers from around the country. Over the next couple of weeks we will highlight some of the speakers that will be bringing the new information to Tennessee educators.

Before we get into the highlights of the upcoming speakers, we are going to talk about the second TEMSEA procedural anatomy lab. 2009 brought the TEMSEA members a new service that was designed to provide in-depth instruction with a hand-on appeal to the anatomy of our patients. The procedural anatomy lab allowed skilled instructors learn from colleagues in areas that we have previously learned about only in text. As the 2010 procedural anatomy lab, instructor are attempting to take this lab even further to continue to enhance the knowledge of the state's educators.

If you haven't already, the registration is up on the www.tnemsea.com website. Also available is a section for the board member nominations. Please join us for Riding the High Seas of EMS Education at the Park Vista Hotel in Gatlinburg Tennessee. This conference will be held 21-23 July 2010. Look forward to seeing you there.

David S. I am sure that if I was to speak to each and everyone of you, I would be hard pressed to find a single individual that can easily take the time to step back and enjoy anything, but I want you to look at this week and understand that through all the hard work, you are appreciated.

With the access of the internet system and hi-speed connections, we can easily utilize resources such as google, bing, and yahoo search engines to find out all the key action that is going on across the country, and maybe even some events in "your neck of the woods" (thanks Al Roker). Through the use of social networking site Facebook, we can actually see many of the appreciation events that are being planned on the national scene. Click here to see the facebook page, http://tinyurl.com/29taqm6. We can also look at the American College of Emergency Physicians website www.acep.org/pressroom.aspx?id=48405 where we see the launch of 2010 National EMS Week; "Anytime, Anywhere, We'll be There"

If you are a practioner, please thank your leaders and educators...if you are an educator, thank your students, if you are a leader please thank your providers. If it wasn't for all of us in this field we wouldn't be able to provide the high quality of service that our communities have come to know.

Don't forget to register for the 2010 TEMSEA conference this year being held at the Park Vista Hotel in Gatlinburg Tennessee. This event will be held from the 21st to 23rd of July and has a tremendous gathering of the industry experts to provide lectures, educational roll-out, and new instructor qualifications.
